Since retiring from the Air Force he has researched and written about innovative solutions to the problem of mental illness. He is the author of Too Good to be True? Nutrients Quiet the Unquiet Brain and is currently working on two additional books due to be published in 2012. Beyond Mental Illness will explore alternatives to current typologies used to classify mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse. Ten Ways to Keep your Brain from Screaming OUCH will focus on interventions to maintain brain health.
Some of his published writings include "The Power and Peril of Paradigms" (Lyme Times July 2006), "The Two Minute, 24-hour Mania Manager a promising treatment for acute mania," (Townsend Letter, July 2006.) and "Antibiomania," (Public Health Alert August 2007). Mr. Moyer gives talks and workshops on novel approaches for mental illness and addictions.
He brings a unique perspective as both a clinical social worker and a member of a family touched by bipolar disorder for four generations. His book and published writings provide a telling perspective on the institutions that deal with our most vulnerable citizens. He offers practical recommendations for a better future for those called the "mentally" ill.
