William Duke opened Awakening (an IOP treatment center) and began private practice several years ago after spending many years operating in-patient treatment centers for adolescents. Bill began Awakening after reviewing the current literature and recognizing that the standard approaches to addiction recovery needed to be updated to match current research. Bill has a background in chemistry and physiology and believed that a more holistic approach was needed to help people learn to live with their dysfunctional brain chemistry and to discover a brand new and healthier way of living.

All patients who attend Awakening are expected to begin a specifically designed nutritional supplementation program as well as begin a physical exercise regime, with their Doctors approval. Supplementation has proven to help patients during the early abstinent period. Patients report craving reduction, better sleep, improved concentration and a focused approach to complete the cognitive therapeutic requirements of the relapse prevention program. Recently, Awakening has begun working with an acupuncturist to utilize auricular therapy for craving reduction. Program successes have continued to improve as we learn more and more about incorporating holistic methods in our program.
